So, God became man, lived a sinless life and died a sinner’s death in our place! Is that the end of the story? Not exactly. Each person must now make a choice: to continue to live a self-directed and ultimately dead-end life (literally!) or to accept the free gift of new life in Christ that was purchased with Jesus’ blood and guaranteed by his resurrection from the dead. The Bible says, “…To as many as receive Him (Jesus), to those who put their trust in His Name, God gives the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12) Furthermore, it tells us that God is working in Christ to reconcile the world to Himself. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old life has passed away; the new life has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17-19) The Biblical story ends with Jesus seated on His throne saying, “Behold, I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:5)
In other words, God is in the process of restoring the goodness of His creation while offering to us the opportunity to be freed from the debt and guilt of our sinful rebellion. In so doing, we can be included in His restorative plan, receiving new life and hope along with His promise to work in us to remake us little by little into the kinds of people He intended at creation.
