The Big Story of the Bible can be summarized in four words: Creation, the Fall, Redemption, and Restoration.

In the beginning, God created the universe. He chose to create all of reality and brought it into being “from nothing.” His creation was all good…the parts of His creation worked together in perfect harmony and the original humans lived in perfect and close relationship with Him.1

As a part of God’s perfect creation plan, he made humans with a conscious will that is free to choose to follow His directions or to reject His directions in order to take control for their own selfish purposes. His directions were given for humanity’s good, and our freedom to live within those boundaries (or not) was part of that good plan. Unfortunately, the original humans decided to rebel against God’s good plans and do things in a way they thought would be better than God’s plan. This resulted in their relationship with God being broken and disrupted the harmony of the created world as well. Furthermore, we have all inherited their sinfulness and live out their rebellion against God in our thoughts and actions daily.2
